Sound Poetry invites self-discovery, shifting the focus from Western efficiency towards introspection and philosophical inquiry. Granados’ beautiful melodies, linked to the guitar’s subtle dynamics, encourage mindful listening and an appreciation for Eastern perspectives. The Intermezzo and Andaluza evoke imaginative landscapes with Eastern inspiration, merging sound and poetry to inspire a sound poetry that blends cello and guitar. The premieres by Figliola and Tusiani are rooted in strong personal imagery and intimate poetic expression, reflecting love for home (Figliola) or personal affection (Tusiani).
The expressive interplay of cello and guitar also embodies a different sensibility, contrasting with a hurried Western aesthetic often lacking in attentive listening, as seen in Morricone’s themes. The Gnattali Sonata ultimately unites East and West with an infectious energy, blending samba and Western counterpoint, South American folk traditions, and European musical structures—a dynamic fusion that opens pathways to new dimensions and beginnings in life.
